Chief Executive Officer
Helmut is an experienced Chief Executive and Director with a background in implementation and change management, business and economic development, strategic analysis and planning, public policy and finance. Helmut has worked extensively through the health sector, having held a range of roles previously working with the Ministry of Health on initiatives including the National Systems Development Programme, PHO Performance Programme and other primary care initiatives. He has also held board roles with PHARMAC, Capital and Coast DHB, the Health Information Standards Organisation and Health Information Strategy Action Committee. Helmut has an MBA and and Bachelor of Commerce and Administration.
Chief Information Officer
Faustin has a rare mix of business, technical and research knowledge, from healthcare to enterprise business systems. Focusing on digital transformation, innovation and security, Faustin is currently the principal of Medical IT Advisors and the CIO of Patients First, on a mission to improve primary health care IT and future healthcare services. Originally from Romania, Faustin has a multi-disciplinary background in IT, nuclear physics and health, with published research in peer-reviewed journals. His international experience has included senior roles across the New Zealand and Australian health sectors, and before that building an innovative cancer center in Vienna, Austria, and prototyping medical data federation across Europe as a Marie Curie fellow at CERN, Switzerland (“where the web was born”). Faustin is currently interested in health information security and emerging technologies, especially blockchain and AI.
Peter is a highly experienced software architect and developer with a particular interest in healthcare information modelling and exchange. His current focus in on interoperability solutions supporting initiatives such as the NZ CDA Toolkit used in GP2GP and the NZ ePrescription Service, plus HL7® Version 2 Messaging and FHIR® Terminology Services. His 3 decades in the IT industry, in the UK and New Zealand, have included spells with vendors of both primary and secondary care applications and various public sector organisations. Peter also represents primary care on the Sector Architects Group Executive and is highly active in the standards world in his roles as Chair of HL7 New Zealand and Co-Chair of the HL7 International Council.
Operations & Digital Lead
Mahalia has extensive administrative and assistant experience in the financial services, non-profit, and retail industries. She has worked internationally in Germany, Australia and New Zealand. With a background in the stockbroking field, she has also developed a strong knowledge in accounts, general IT, front-end website development and marketing. Mahalia manages the operational processes and digital marketing initiatives.
Jane is an experienced administrator in a range of educational and business settings. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Health, majoring in Population Health and Health Policy at Victoria University. She is hoping to work towards improving health services for all New Zealanders in the future.
Rafael has 17+ years extensive experience in B2B environments primarily in the telecommunications industry, with major players such as Telstra/Clear, Vodafone and 2 Degrees Mobile in various roles. He has proven his success in driving new business through multiple awards and is renowned for continually improving customer satisfaction through providing timely advice and sound solutions. Working in a very competitive industry Rafael has found the need for fresh ideas valuable and rewarding whilst maintaining a persistent “can-do” attitude. The health sector faces some interesting challenges particularly around the speed in which technology improvements are implemented and the landscape of fragmented IT solutions. He is excited about how Patients First can contribute to improving the wellbeing of every New Zealander.
Support Desk & Junior Systems Administrator
Rohit is an experienced technical support specialist with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He has a background in systems support, front-end web development, software testing and as an IT analyst. Rohit is passionate about making people’s life easier through implementation and support of leading-edge technologies. He has a proactive approach and strong desire to learn, analyse and improve business processes and functions. Rohit provides IT system administration and technical support for Patients First’s IT solutions and services with a focus on achieving customer satisfaction.
Miro is an undergraduate studying Statistics and Psychology at Victoria University Wellington. She has experience working in the food and retail industries, as well extensive involvement in volunteer projects including at CanTeen, The Hospice Nelson, Green Gables retirement home, and Plunket. Miro provides administration and accounts support to the team.
